Over the past couple of years, we’ve had some dedicated volunteers and directors in the SBHCA
working with two levels of government to find a solution to the noise levels from the ring road
that have been affecting our neighbourhood. In October 2025 we shared some updates that boil
down to all parties involved being in agreement that there is a noise issue…so what happens
next? How can it be mitigated?
In January 2026, our Executive board members met again with government representatives from
Transportation and Economic Corridors as well as MLA Mike Ellis. The outcome of the meeting
was to acknowledge that there is a need for noise mitigation and study must focus on the type of
mitigation that can fit our neighborhood the best.
The Transportation and Economic Corridors Ministry (TEC) have now engaged ISL Engineering
Ltd as the consultant on this project. TEC will manage all communications, including with local
residents, on this project. The project team began meeting in February 2026 and ISL has initiated
preliminary engineering and is starting to update their noise modeling based on the latest traffic
forecasts and recent actual noise readings.
Based on the noise model results and noise attenuation guidelines ISL will determine where
noise walls are needed. It is expected that their assessments will be finished in summer 2026
with design work starting shortly after. Residents who will be affected by the construction of
noise attenuation walls will be engaged to determine if there is broad support for noise reduction.
This engagement is planned to start in the fall of 2026 and may continue on into the winter.
We expect several questions regarding this update as things are now moving forward – here are
some answers we’re able to share at this point.
When can residents expect engagement?
Currently ISL has it slated for fall/winter 2026. Engagement will primarily come through the
government through TEC but the SBHCA will also try to host an open house regarding
mitigation measures and how residents will be affected once we have more information from the
design process.
Will all Springbank Hill residents be engaged by the government?
Residents affected by the construction of the noise walls will be contacted. If you are not
contacted but have concerns or feedback, TEC has shared that any inquiries can be directed to
tec.wcrrnoiseanalysis@gov.ab.ca., you can also always contact our director regarding any noise

When can we expect any noise mitigation measures to be in place?
We have not been updated on a completion date of any kind. According to the timeline, the
public engagement is scheduled for fall/winter 2026 based on the ISL study outcome.
